Ayleward / Aylward

The name Aylward or Ayleward in Ireland is of Norman origin having been introduced into the country in the fourteenth century. These Settler families created Septs along native Gaelic lines and became completely integrated into Gaelic society, adopting the name Aighleart in Counties Waterford and Kilkenny.
