The name Black in Ireland is mostly found in Ulster where it is of Scottish origin and connected to the Lamont, MacGregor and Duart clans. It was also brought to the country by Anglo settlers. The Gaelic Mac Giolla Dhuibh Sept of Galway who usually anglicized their name as Kilduff, occasionally used Black instead. From the word 'dubh' meaning 'black'.
