The name Burnett in Ireland is of Anglo-Norman origin having been introduced into the country during the thirteenth century. The name originally existed as 'brun', meaning 'brown'. The majority of descendants bearing this name can still be found in the original settlement locations, Counties Dublin, Meath and Clare. Burnell and Brunell are of similar derivation.

Origen: Normando, Escocés. First found in Berwickshire where they were seated from very ancient times, some say well before the Norman Conquest and the arrival of Duke William at Hastings in 1066 A.D.
