Caffrey / McCaffrey

The Irish name Caffrey or McCaffrey is derived from the native Gaelic Mac Gafraidh Sept who were a branch of the ruling Maguires of County Fermanagh in the Province of Ulster. In Irish the name is Mac Gafraidh meaning son of Godfrey.
MacCaghery and MacCahery are variants of this name that is still today mostly found in the Northern Counties.
