El apellido de origen irlandés DOLAN proviene del gaélico O'Dobhailen, clan localizado en los Co. Roscommon y Galway (Connaught). En la actualidad se encuentra bastante difundido, especialmente en su lugar de origen y en los distritos católicos de Cavan y Fermanagh (Ulster), con variantes que incluyen O'Doelan y también Devlin.
