Origen: Normando. The history of the Gibney family goes back to the ancient Anglo-Saxon culture of Britain. It is derived from the family living in the village of Gedney in the county of Lincolnshire. The place-name is derived from the Old English Gyddan-ea, which literally means Gydda's island. First found in Lincolnshire where they were seated from very ancient times, some say well before the Norman Conquest and the arrival of Duke William at Hastings in 1066 A.D.
