McGrane / Magrane

Origen: Escocés. McGrane is a Dalriadan-Scottish name, no doubt originally for a person who lived on the island of Jura in the Inner Hebrides. The name is derived from Gaelic Mac Crain. First found in the islands of Jura and Islay, where they were seated from very ancient times, some say well before the Norman Conquest and the arrival of Duke William at Hastings in 1066 A.D. The name McGrane in Ireland is derived from the Mag Raighne Gaelic Sept that was mainly located in the Province of Leinster and in the Counties of Dublin and Louth in particular. It is also found in Ulster where the variant MacGrann is more prevalent.
