The name King in Ireland was brought to the country in large numbers by settlers from England in the seventeenth century. Several native Gaelic Septs adopted King as the anglicized form of their name. These include the O'Conraoi Sept of County Mayo and the Mac Fhearadhaigh Sept that was based in County Monaghan.
