Knight / McKnight
The names Knight and McKnight in Ireland are derived from the native Gaelic Sept Mac An Ridire. The Gaelic word 'ridire' means 'knight'. Ruddery is used interchangeably with Knight. The Sept was mainly located in County Westmeath and was a branch of the Fitzsimons Sept.
