The names Murdock and Murdoch in Ireland are often of immigrant origin having been brought to Ulster Province by settlers who arrived from Scotland especially during the seventeenth century. The native Gaelic O'Muircheartaigh Sept of County Meath occasionally adopted these names as the anglicized form of their native name, instead of the more usual Murtagh.
