The name Watson in Ireland is derived from the native Gaelic Mac Bhaididh Sept whose name was also anglicized as MacWhatty, MacWatt and MacQuatt. The name was also brought into the Province of Ulster by settlers from England and Scotland, especially during the seventeenth century.
