Weir

The name Weir in Ireland is derived from the native Gaelic Sept Mac an Mhaoir, where the word 'Mhaoir' means 'steward', and who were based in County Armagh. The O'Corra Sept based in County Westmeath sometimes anglicized their name to Weir and still others will be of English or Scottish origin.
