Origen: Irlandés. The Irish name Houlihan is derived from the native Gaelic O'hUallachain Septs of which there were several. The name is taken from a Gaelic word that translates as 'proud'. There are a number of variants including Oulihan, Whoolahan, Hoolahan and Holohan. Houlihan is most often found in Munster Province, in County Limerick.
